Nudists

Is it any surprise that my child would say something totally ridiculous as to warrant her teachers at school to question whether we are nudists? Sadly, no. The other day when I picked her up from daycare Ms. Sarah gave me the weirdest look. It concerned me enough that I asked what Pearl had said this time. Sarah ever so calmly asked me if I wore pajamas to bed. Uh, yes, why!? I guess Pearl told her that Jeff and I didn't wear any pajamas to bed then proceeded to explain what that meant. I guess I just wear stars to bed. Huh??? After a lot of laughs from all who overheard Pearl's antics this time, it finally dawned on me where she might have concocted such a ridiculous idea. She had picked out her outfit that day and decided to wear these cross-between-pjs-and-lounge-clothes to school. Rather than battle with her, I let her wear them. Everyone kept telling her how cute her pajamas were and I figured after several discussions about her snowman jammies, she decided to tell everyone what my jammies looked like. And NO we do NOT sleep NAKED!!! Nor has she EVER caught us NAKED together... that's what locks are for!!! My "stars" as she told her teachers are actually pajamas with stars on them. And while Jeff does enjoy a jaunt around the house in only a towel, he definitely wears pajamas to bed! Thank heavens my sister did verify that we do in fact wear pjs to bed. Even after three days, the daycare is still laughing about Pearl's latest tall tale. Ms. Sarah even threatened to quit the other day if Pearl got moved out of her class because she makes her laugh so much.

And while I'm on the blackmailing roll here, I might as well post a video of Pearl's infamous Dancing Queen moves. It might come in handy when she is 16. See post here for further details.

Pearl is such a funny girl! She is getting to be quite independent, at least she wants to be. Everything has to be "me do it" or "me do it myself." And I mean everything. She picks out her own clothes (much to our dismay), gets her shoes and boots out of her closet, turns the lights on by herself, gets her own plates/bowls and utensils for meals, hops in and out of the tub all by herself, and as of late, wants to cook too. So on Friday I let her make pizza with me. She was so excited to tell her Dad that she had put olives on the pizza all by herself. Then she helped us put all the vegetables in the chicken noodle soup on Sunday. Oh and even after slaving away over dinner, she had enough energy and excitement to do the dishes for us. Of course we had to clean up the small flood afterward and listen to her screams when all the dishes were done, but it was so nice to have two little helping hands. I just hope her enthusiasm to help around the house is still here when she turns 14.

Panties!

Read this first, then watch the video. It will make more sense.

Jeff promised Pearl that he would buy her the coolest panties if she ever decided to get potty trained - not the grandma panties he says I wore. What I have forgotten to tell you all though is long before she got her stash of Disney cartoon panties at Christmas, she had a pair from Victoria's Secret. Perverted maybe, funny yes! We were at the Gateway shopping and I had a coupon for a free pair of panties (every girl needs a cute pair once in awhile, even if you wear "passion killers" as a friend once called them). So we ventured into VS. As soon as we walked in the door Pearl's little eyes dazzled in excitement and she started running around the store yelling at us to look at all the panties! It was hilarious and a little embarrassing. Well she was so excited about all the panties that we decided to let her pick out a pair. We found the smallest size we could, opened the drawer and told her she could pick any panties she wanted. She walked out proud as can be, holding a tiny pink bag with a pair of red heart panties inside. It didn't work - we're still in diapers - but she does have fun putting them on over her clothes and running around the house.

365

The 365 project blog has been updated. I won't promise consistency from here on out but I'll do my best to take at least one picture a week. At least you'll get to see what we did before I starting barfing every 10 minutes! Maybe next year I'll actually accomplish this goal - I mean what better way to document how quickly a tiny baby changes than a picture a day, right?

The results are in

Sorry to leave you all hanging... well those of you who haven't called or emailed or caught me in person before now. But I suppose the rest of you would like to know if we're having a boy or a girl, right? As I contemplated how to break the news to everyone I had many thoughts for this post but then I just didn't get around to blogging and now I've forgotten all of my cute ideas. So here goes....

It's a BOY!

Yes, you read right. The idea of having a little rough and tumble, peeing outside boy is slowing sinking in. I'll admit, I wanted an Amelia but you'd have to be one tough guy to pull a name off like that! Jeff said he wanted a girl but I think once he got over the initial shock that he'd be buying an entire new wardrobe and repainting the nursery a more manly color, he was super excited! The buying spree has already begun too (Jeff's doing entirely). Isn't this the absolute most adorable outfit you've ever seen in your entire life! Jeff keeps telling Pearl that any clothes she gets will now be gender neutral so "the boy" (Jeff's first choice for his name, seriously... The Boy) can wear them.
Everything on the ultrasound looked good... no missing body parts (and an extra one at that!). It's always nerve-racking for me to have that first ultrasound when you're silently praying the whole time they find everything. And the best part was (well besides only finding one kid in there), he measured bigger than they thought so I got to move my due date up to May 15. I think ultrasounds must have improved since Pearl was born or at least we had a newer computer because this time around we could actually tell what the blob inside of me was. Pearl and my sister were able to be there with us and Pearl wasn't too happy with the idea it was a boy. She kept telling us (and still does every day) that the baby is a girl. She calls the baby "Ricco" - if anyone is a fan of the Madagascar penguins then you'll know there is a Skipper (which Pearl calls Jeff), Kawalski (aka Me), the Private (aka Pearl), and Ricoo (aka the baby). I'm sure we'll get a few looks with this one but it is pretty funny to hear her call the baby Ricco. I guess today at school she was telling her teachers that I was at home but Ricoo came to work. Hopefully we can come up with a better name by the time he gets here.

So there you go, a boy. I haven't puked in a few days so maybe it's finally over (ha!). This kid isn't nearly as wiggly as Pearl was and every day I panic at least twice because I can't feel him moving around like I remember with Pearl (and yes, she was that wiggly from about 16 weeks on). Maybe this means there will be less drama than with a girl. Comparing pregnancies, I've been sick longer with "the boy" than I was with Pearl but with Pearl the sickness got totally out of control really fast (resulting in almost 15 lbs weight loss). I'm exhausted by about 7 pm every night and have to be in bed by 10:30 or the next day is miserable - so much for that "honeymoon" phase of the 2nd trimester with bursting energy. I've only gained 10 lbs so far and crossing my fingers it stays on track to NOT gain 50 lbs. like I did with Pearl. If I can muster up enough self-esteem to have Jeff take a belly picture I'll post that before I really do look like a beached whale.

Last, anyone with boys... advice??? We're venturing into an all new territory with this one!

Cast your vote

Boy or girl? That is the question to (hopefully) be answered next week, just in time for Christmas. If you ask my co-workers, they all say it's a boy. Ask my brother-in-law and it's a boy. Ask Jeff and he says it better be a girl. Me? I have no clue! A few weeks ago I had a dream that we had a boy but didn't want to take it home from the hospital with us. Then we had a girl but she had dark, brown skin and if you've seen the gene pool this kid's been dealt with, you know all too well it's got no chance of any olive complexion!

I just hope everything is ok on the ultrasound and really, does it matter if it's a boy or girl? Ok, well besides the thought of having to start all over in the clothes department and somehow convince Jeff to repaint the bedroom blue if it's a boy, as long as it's healthy I'm happy. I just hope this time around Jeff doesn't pout for a weekend (until he makes a new shoe purchase to cheer himself up) if our little girl is really a boy, like he did when he found out Pearl didn't have a penis!

SO... cast your vote - boy or girl?
