Why I hate Atlanta

I hate Atlanta.

I'm sure there are wonderfully nice people here and I will give Georgia credit that parts of the state are very pretty, but why couldn't the CDC eradicate malaria somewhere else? Like Hawaii?

It's hot. And humid.

I get to attend between 8-10 hours of meetings every day.

There's not a bookstore anywhere near me! Even with a HUGE, MEGA mall across the street. I mean, can I really be held 100% accountable for not buying all three of the Hunger Games books for my trip? I mean, I know I'm probably the last person on the planet who hasn't read the series or seen the movie yet, but I didn't know I'd fly through the first book on the plane ride here.

I'm bored.

It's dirty and sticky.

It's not the most pedestrian friendly city in the world. Traffic is 24/7 rush hour traffic.

My hotel has about seven ESPN channels and 12 news stations and nothing else. I guess my guilty indulgence of watching hours of HGTV won't happen.

Two hour time changes throw me off my rocker. Getting up at 6:00 a.m. for meetings feels like 4:00 a.m. my time. And when you are a night owl like me, this isn't good.

I miss my kids.

I really miss my husband.

And I feel immensely guilty that I left Jeff home with two kids, with no food in the fridge and with his own full schedule at work to worry about. But they do have clean clothes, clean sheets on the bed, dust-free rooms, and when I left, no crumbs in the carpet (that I could see anyway).

I know. I shouldn't complain. I get to spend a few days not worrying about out what to make for dinner or having to change diapers or dealing with whiny kids.

But I really miss home.

Update from KSL

The incredible feelings I had filming the Mormon Times show last weekend faded with a single email from KSL. Rather than rewrite everything, I thought I'd just share the email I sent to my beautiful friends.

I have been avoiding this email for two days now.
I've got some good news and some bad news from KSL.

The bad news. Somehow in all my communications about this TV show with KSL and my friend at the Church, I just assumed it was going to be the entire Mother's Day episode on Patty. It's not. I have no idea how this was not communicated with all the phone calls, emails, and messages from me to KSL. It will only be a 3 minute segment on the show (still airing on Channel 5 on May 13 at 10 a.m.). Everything they told me was that it was a 30 minute story. My heart literally sunk to my feet when I found out. Irinna felt really bad about it too, especially because she - and all of us - knew how incredibly touching and special Saturday had been.

But! Immediately after picking up my heart from off the floor and having a 30 second anger/pity party for us all, I had this sense of calm. I can't explain it but I just felt all those amazing feelings I had on Saturday with each of you and Patty and remembered all the feelings I had when this whole thing started... the feeling that this was something that needed to be done and that Carri was playing her hand in this too. Every time I want to be mad or upset about not getting the entire show all for Patty, I feel like it was meant to be and I wouldn't trade Saturday for ANYTHING! I got to spend all day with the most beautiful women I know (inside and out... we looked HOT!). I don't know if it was supposed to be just for us and Patty to share in that special time or if the TV segment, although much shorter than all of us expected or wanted, will touch someone's life.

One of the reasons I've waited to tell everyone, besides feeling horrible about it, was because I wanted to get some more feedback from KSL and the Church about using more of Patty's story. Irinna and Dennis were both so touched by everything we shared on Saturday. Irinna is pushing hard to do a follow up story - the full 30 minutes this time - on Patty. She wants to do this as part of October's General Conference. She is already making tentative plans to send someone to our open house. Dennis even offered to come and film at it. They wouldn't tell me this or do this if they weren't thinking they could use her story again. Irinna said she was so inspired that she strongly feels Patty's story is something that needs to be told in more depth and in it's entirety. She wants to film more and get more stories on Patty. I also told her to use this footage for other projects KSL or the Church works on. I really believe when it comes down to deciding what stories to do for the next few months of their shows, that Irinna will not forget Patty and the incredible influence she has been to so many.

I also told my friend and former coworker about my disappointment and he said he will follow up with KSL afterwards about doing a follow up story. He also said he has a chance to work with the General Young Women Presidency a bit and after the show airs in May, he will send Sis. Dalton the link to Patty's segment and tell her about her influence on us girls. Cody is amazing and has so many connections that I feel we are in good hands.

So.... long story short. I am so so sorry to everyone! I am so sorry Rachel and Molly got "banished" to the basement when you should have just stayed with all of us. I am so sorry for the effort everyone put into Saturday and that some of you felt you didn't get a chance to tell your full story of Patty in your life. BUT! I am not sorry for the most amazing, uplifting, spiritual, happy day I've had in a long, long time! I am not sorry I got the chance to see my true friends whom I love more than anything! I am not sorry we got to be there with Patty and not 1,000 other people wanting to talk to her! I am not sorry that we each got to share with Patty and each other how much she has meant to us!

And, I figured Patty would tell us all to stop worrying about this, smile, and not feel bad for the wonderful memory we had together.
Plus, we have to much to do for her open house to dwell on this for long!

There you go. Don't worry about me though. I'm at peace with everything.

But I complain if a you sent in a spare prayer or two to help some of our other options to tell Patty's entire story come to fruition later this year. :)

Oh, and if you know Patty Jones and want to tell her how much she has meant to you, please come to her open house! It is going to be so much fun and we have a BIG, BIG, super secret surprise guest for her that you won't want to miss!
