Geez! I am so behind blogging. Who knew our new addition would take up so much energy? I did better blogging with newborns (of the human kind). Mostly because human newborns can't eat your couch... they don't need 100% supervision all the time 'cause they can't move! Any whoo. Raspberry Days came and went. It was a bit chaotic. We picked up Blu on a Thursday night, was up all night long to peeing and barking (oh wait, I was up all night long), packed Friday morning, drove to Logan, stopped at Jeff's parents for a break, and then headed up to "the property" at Bear Lake. Whew. I refused to let my new puppy ride in a kennel in the back of the truck... she's just a baby! So she sat in my arms. Blu did pretty good though, sleeping most of the way. And no accidents in Jeff's truck. That might have been the end of her, and me. The kids thought it was great to have her in the truck. Cole wanted to hold her the entire time. I sure hope they continue to like her this much.
I have to say, I have never seen the sun completely rise at Bear Lake in all my 31 years. Until I got a dog. She's up at the crack 'o dawn. So we ventured down to the beach every morning to watch the sun come over the mountains and then blind us with the its sparkling reflection in the water. Beautiful. But I'd be happy if this would have been a once in a lifetime experience and not an every morning experience.
The girls hit the craft fair for a quick run-through. And by quick, I mean quick. My mom didn't come because my grandparents got there right as we were leaving. And since Jeff and I were on meal duty for the day, I ran my sister and sister-in-law through there fast. We had to cook, eat, and do cleanup by 12:50 at the latest because we had tickets to the hottest, funniest show in town! Jaunito Bandito! Oh yes. Totally, totally awesome. "Super awesome" as Jaunito Bandito would say himself. So hilarious! I can't even tell you how much I laughed. Emily and I went to high school with El Bandito himself, T.J. Davis. I still remember when he moved to North Logan in the 3rd grade from Michigan. We all thought he was so cool with his MC Hammer pants and Chicago Bulls jersey. Then he was a star basketball player, Student Body President, and probably the most popular kid in school. And always so nice to everyone. My phone totally died or I would have gotten a picture with Jaunito after the show... surprised he still remembered me, even with my horrid, sweaty, no makeup on 'cause we didn't have time with lunch to get ready self. If you are ever up at Bear Lake, you must, must, must go to Pickleville Playhouse and see the show! Amidst the crazy craft fair run through, the kids somehow talked me into buying them each a pair of Stompeez. I splurged on something I never buy myself, a new sweatshirt. Lame, huh? But I love it and my stylin' sis-in-law EZ said it was a definite buy.
On Sunday we went to the Paris Ice Caves. It was Blu's first outing on the leash. She didn't want to be left behind! Everyone there loved her. It's kind of a novelty having a puppy because complete strangers come up to you and talk and pet your dog. Kind of like when Cole was a baby with all that blonde hair.
Jeff likes Blu a whole lot more than he lets on!
My parents with their mutts, Rex and Maddox. Naughty dogs... we kept telling Blu she didn't have to do everything her cousins did!
Cole found a stick which turned into a gun pointed in my direction.
The cave was full of butterflies! I have no idea what they were doing in there. Maybe some mineral in the dirt? Maybe to cool off? Maybe the wind kept them stuck down there?
Cole did one of those slow motion face tumbles and instead of immediately comforting my child, I took a picture of his adorable, tear-streaked, and dirt covered face. Love him!
Family photo. Lovely :)
Kurtis always seems to be alone during family pictures so I usually get one of him doing a funny or in this case a squishy face and then the pondering one.
Cole insisted we take home his new rock collection from the ice caves.
The night before, Jeff had spotted two bull moose in the cabins above our property. He said there was a cabin with a salt lick that they were nearby. So, tonight we loaded up all three of the kids and the dog, and headed out to hunt moose. Jeff shall now be known as the "moose whisperer" for his ability to find a "10 feet tall moose" as Ruby called it. The kids were pumped to see a moose! Blu could have cared less. It's been a long time since I've seen a moose around Bear Lake. Must be the dry year we've had forcing them to come out of hiding a bit more. Oh, and the best part about Mr. Moose was Jeff spotted him (and a friend) every night we were there. On the drive back home, Jeff was sad he hadn't seen a moose yet. I tell him the same story about the time I saw two bull moose near the Peter Sinks area one summer... which bores him to tears I've told it so many times. Well, wouldn't you know it? I looked over and saw something dark in the ravine. I told Jeff, "See look it's a moose!" He didn't believe me. But as we drove past, he looked back in the rear view mirror and said, "Well I'll be damned!" Four for four!
4 wheeler ride with the hubster. Apparently, I wasn't going fast enough for him because I came around the corner and found this.
Cole loves the 4 wheelers! That kid waits around all weekend for his turn. It's hard because he's too little to go very far but he thinks he can go anywhere. He even put on his helmet himself and climbed aboard, yelling at everyone that it was his turn!
Um, raspberry milkshakes. Duh! It is Raspberry Days. And yes, my sister got fried as usual.
Walks along the beach. Blu loved chasing the kids up and down the sand.
Bear Lake is sure a lot more work and a lot more tiring as an adult than I remember as a kid. Maybe it's because I have to actually be responsible for keeping small children, dogs, and husbands fed, supervised, lathered in sunscreen, and entertained. But it's still the only place you can be totally lazy and not feel a twinge of guilt about. A little slice of heaven.
